The Young Lomond Folk Competition 2006
| The Young Lomond Folk Competition
at the 2006 Lomond Folk Festival produced performances of
outstanding quality. Despite a disappointing response in the
number of entrants the level of performance was so high that all who
attended the event agreed that it was a truly memorable
experience. Let us hope that this level will be maintained in
future years and that numbers of contestants will continue to rise and
make the Young Lomond Folk Competition a real keystone of the
festival.
All who took part in the competition are to be congratulated but special congratulations must go to Polly Hannah Ruth Ray, winner of the 8-11 age group who delighted everyone, not just with her playing but with her witty introduction, and to Ryan Young who won the 12-16 age group medal with his astonishing agility on the fiddle. Ryan is a veteran of the competition, having won his age group in the very first competition held at the 2004 festival. Click images below for a larger picture |
